EWMGA BOARD MEETING
APRIL 27, 2010
The Eagle Watch Men’s Golf Association (EWMGA) Board meeting
was started at 6:00 pm in the Eagle Watch Hearth
restaurant. Board members in attendance were Gary Janos,
Jim Gould, Erik Rosengren, David Scott, Bruce Worthington,
Frank Peters, Mark Dickson, Al Whitten and Mike Smithson.
Guests attending were Scott Szymoniak of the Canongate/Eagle
Watch staff. Board members absent were Bob Smith and Sergio
Silva.
Scott provided the following summarized update on Eagle
Watch organizational changes and course maintenance
activities:
-
Jim Sims and
Justin Tackett are being reassigned to the Bentwater
Golf Club.
-
Phil Sutter
will remain at Eagle Watch and Andrew Cartwright will
join the staff.
-
Scott has
become the General Manager covering both the Eagle Watch
and Bentwater Golf Clubs.
-
The new golf
carts with GPS units installed should arrive at Eagle
Watch by the end of May.
-
The cart path
replacement/restoration program should begin about
mid-May. The paths will be asphalt and this is planned
to be about a two-year project.
-
The course
greens still have not achieved the desired condition
which is believed to be partially due to lack of warm
weather. The root system tests appear good and
additional water testing is being accomplished. Further
reports will be provided to the club membership as more
information becomes available and plans are developed.
-
Changes are
also being executed to the driving range and course tee
boxes and fairways are being watched to determine
actions necessary to reach proper standards.
Erick presented the Treasurer’s Report indicating a current
bank balance of $2,294.24 with an additional #35 to be
deposited from one new member. There are no debts pending
payment at this time.
Erik also reported that there are 98 current 2010 EWMGA
members.
The Crème of the Crop tournament results, held on
April 10-11, were discussed. There were 51 participants in
the tournament. Feedback from the players was generally
good and format and gifts. The tournament planned budget
was overrun primarily to unexpected costs involving the logo
design and shipment costs for the gifts with a loss to the
EWMGA of $257.45. Suggestions for consideration for next
years tournament included exploring the award of winner
green jackets and use of accuracy, in lieu of longest, drive
awards.
The upcoming Big Kahuna tournament, scheduled for May
15th, was discussed. It was decided to move this
tournament to June 5th due to course conditions.
The format proposal was reviewed with decisions made to (1)
have sign-ups made as individuals, (2) utilized to lunch
menu sign-up system at arrival, and announce that winner
payouts will not occur the day of the tournament ending.
NOTE: It was subsequently decided to delay this
tournament to a date to be established due to the poor
course green’s condition.
The Midnight Madness Night Golf tournament has now
been scheduled to be held on June 11th. The
format was discussed and decided to remain with the 9-hole
format.
Frank reviewed the Thursday Night Men’s League
indicating everything going well with good participation.
Gary reported that Tilted Kilt Pub & Eatery is becoming a
sponsor for this activity.
The EWMGA Spring Kick-Off Fundraiser (Pig Roast),
scheduled for May 1st, was then discussed. Bruce
reported that there are 76 individuals signed-up to date
with the event limited to a 100 maximum.
No new business was presented for discussion and this
meeting was adjourned at 7:10 pm. The nest scheduled Board
meeting will be at 6:00 pm on Monday (May 24, 2010).
Respectively
